Scherdel Schlappenbier is a richly malty amber Bock of 6.5% alcohol. Brewed for Schlappentag in Hof, it’s a limited release for the Hof public holiday which falls on the Monday following Whit Monday. Its nose has toasted malt and caramel. The malt forward brew is spicy with some burnt caramel notes. The lingering finish is semi-dry and bittersweet.
Scherdel Helle Weisse is a fruity example of the style with nice a yeast element. Both components intermingle in the enticing nose. The palate is quite balanced and refreshing. The lingering finish is semi-dry.
Gänstaller Helles Lagerbier is Craft Beer take on a Helles. It's gorgeously hoppy with grassy notes intermingling with citrus hops before the lingering dry bitter finish.
Keesmann Gold is an unfiltered richly malty Export with an undercurrent of grain and plenty of hops in the lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter finish.
Scherdel Premium Pilsner is a classic German Pils with a balanced dry hoppy palate and clean finish.
Meinel-Bräu Weizenbock is a lovely example of the style with a richly malty fruity palate and a lingering semi-dry finish. The mix of fruit, yeast and banana is classic.
Held-Bräu Weizenbock is one gorgeous beer and possibly the best dark Weizenbock I’ve ever had in Franconia. It’s roasty for the style and I’d generally not like that but in this one it really works as it interplays with the hops in a subdued way. The lingering finish is sublimely dry for the style and shows a little less alcohol in this style can be a good thing at 6.9%.
Keesmann Josephi Bock is brewery's amped up version of their autumn Bock with a darker hue and a richer maltier palate. There must be a ton of hops as it's not particularly sweet at 8.2%.
Meinel-Bräu Absolvinator is a richly malty Doppelbock with enough underlying hops to keep it from being cloying. No mean feat at 7.5%
Meinel-Bräu Blümla is an excellent Craft Beer Pale Ale with a marvelous citrusy nose and chiffon-like head. The lingering semi-dry finish is moreish.
