Scherdel Schlappenbier is a richly malty amber Bock of 6.5% alcohol. Brewed for Schlappentag in Hof, it’s a limited release for the Hof public holiday which falls on the Monday following Whit Monday. Its nose has toasted malt and caramel. The malt forward brew is spicy with some burnt caramel notes. The lingering finish is semi-dry and bittersweet.
Scherdel Helle Weisse is a fruity example of the style with nice a yeast element. Both components intermingle in the enticing nose. The palate is quite balanced and refreshing. The lingering finish is semi-dry.
Eller Vollbier is a golden example of the style with a grainy/malty nose. The balanced malty palate is grainy with underlying hops. The lingering finish is semi-dry and semi-bitter.
Goldene Gans Maibock is an unfiltered amber example of the style with a creamy off-white head. There’s some light grain in the faint nose. The fairly balanced palate is grainy and features a peppery hops element. The lingering finish is semi-dry and semi-bitter.
Würzburger Höfbräu Frühjahrsfestbier is deep golden with a creamy white head and light spicy hops in the malty nose. The balanced palate is richly malty but has fair spicy hopping to dry it out in the lingering semi-bitter finish.
Gampertbräu Förster Dunkel is a balanced richly malty brew with some roasty undertones. The lingering finish is semi-dry and semi-bitter.
Kesselring Landbier Hell is a richly malty deep golden brew with a creamy white head and malty nose. The balanced palate is fruity and semi-dry with a bittersweet finish.
Köslauer Kellerbier Jose Edition is his self-pitched yeast and home lagered version of the brewery's Kellerbier. Franconian brewing at its best.
Kauzen-Bräu Bock is a rich deep golden example of the style with a touch of honey in the nose and palate of the predominantly malty palate. The lingering finish is bittersweet and not overly sticky. It’s not bad if a bit on the industrial side.
Kommunbrauhaus Junkersdorf helles Vollbier was slightly sour with a hint of butter and not as good as their regular Kellerbier from a previous tasting. This was on gravity dispense at the brewery's Kerwa in October 2024.
