Goldene Gans Maibock
Brewery: Goldene Gans
Town: Würzburg
Style: Maibock 8%
Color: unfiltered amber
Head: off-white, creamy
Nose: light grain,
Body: medium to full
Palate: malty, peppery hops, light grain
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the Goldene Gans Biergarten.
Impression: This Maibock is an unfiltered amber example of the style with a creamy off-white head. There’s some light grain in the faint nose. The fairly balanced palate is grainy and features a peppery hops element. The lingering finish is semi-dry and semi-bitter. It’s not a great Maibock but it’s my favorite beer here so far.

I'm an American living in Munich and Bamberg. Why? Well, I came for the beer but stayed for the girl. I'm very happily married to a German woman. Of course, the bonus of great beer certainly doesn't hurt. An avid love of hiking and finding new beers has led me to found Beerwanderers, an information resource on beer hiking trails in Franconia with an emphasis on Franconian food specialties and the endless variety of amazing beer the region is renowned for. I also published my first book Beer Hiking Bavaria which features 50 beer hikes in Bavaria and lead beer hiking experiences for those who love beer & nature. View all posts by beerwanderers
