Impression: I was skeptical about yet another Helles in Franconia but this one is decidedly not in the Munich direction. In fact, it’s hoppier than most Franconian Pils. It’s got more malty fruitiness than it first belies but it’s unmistakably a gorgeously hoppy brew with a lingering dry bitter finish. Grassy notes intermingle with the citrusy hops much as I found in their Zwickel Pils but this one has a bit more malt backbone. That said, many would say it’s one dimensional for a Helles. I’m a little divided by the name myself and though I like it enough, it’s probably not a beer I’d session on. I did have two as wanted a logo glass for the photo but was unhappy when the glass was so NOT beer clean.
