Pfarrbräu Stout
Brewery: Pfarrbräu
Town: Karstadt am Main (Stadelhofen)
Style: Stout
Color: unfiltered black
Head: tan, rocky, creamy
Nose: roasty
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, malty, light roast, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at SophienBäck in Würzburg.
Impression: Pfarrbräu Stout is an unfiltered black example of the style. The balanced palate is malty with light roast notes and fair but understated hops. The lingering finish is semi-dry and semi-bitter. It’s quite soft due to the low carbonation. A true Stout on tap regularly available has to be supported. This one-man brewery had flown under my radar completely but a friend who lives in Würzburg gave me the tip about this great little “wine” restaurant in his neighborhood, featuring quite a few of these elusive beers on tap.
