Pfarrbräu Fränkisch Hell
Pfarrbräu Fränkisch Hell

Brewery: Pfarrbräu
Town: Karstadt am Main (Stadelhofen)

Style: Vollbier hell

Color: unfiltered golden

Head: white, rocky

Nose: light mix of hops and grain

Body: medium

Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter

Served: on tap at SophienBäck in Würzburg.

Impression: Pfarrbräu Fränkisch Hell is an unfiltered golden rustic example of the style. The balanced palate is malty with light grain notes and fair but understated hops. The lingering finish is semi-dry and semi-bitter. It’s quite soft due to the low carbonation. This one-man brewery had flown under my radar completely but a friend who lives in Würzburg gave me the tip about this great little “wine” restaurant in his neighborhood, featuring quite a few of these elusive beers on tap.
