Frauendorfer Vollbier
Brewery: Hetzel (Frauendorfer)
Town: Frauendorf
Style: Vollbier
Color: amber
Head: rocky
Nose: nice mix of malt and hops
Body: medium, low carbonation
Palate: soft, fruity, dry, hoppy
Finish: long, dry, slightly bitter
Served: from a bottle bought close to Bad Staffelstein
Impression: I was happy to find this in a local beer store after having hiked to the brewery only to find it unexpectedly closed. I was half hoping it wouldn’t be all that great since it’s such a hard to get to place with about as unfriendly opening hours as you could possibly have. Of course, I poured the bottle to find an amber beauty with a massive rocky head and an appealing malty/hoppy nose. It’s a real session brew with a silky soft, well-balanced palate. As hoppy as it is, the finish isn’t overly bitter, making it moreish, especially at 4.9%. Now, I hope to get back to the brewpub to sample it on tap one day.
