Adler Altfränkisches Lagerbier
Brewery: Adler-Bräu (Brauerei Schwarzer Adler)
Town: Stettfeld
Style: old Franconian lager
Color: amber
Head: dense, creamy
Nose: slight floral hop
Body: full-bodied, low carbonation, super soft mouthfeel
Palate: very fruity and dry
Finish: long, dry, bitter
Served: on tap at the Sandkerwa
Impression: This was our third beer at the Sandkerwa and coming on the heels of Weiher’s Lagerbier, not in the easiest position to impress. We’d walked a bit further than many care to at Sandkerwa, mostly in hope of escaping the crowds. We were rewarded with yet another new brewery for us. It sounded vaguely familiar and they had a nice spot on the river, too. The women pouring were up to task and the resultant brew looked great, with a large creamy head and even a bit of floral hops in the nose. Again, it was super soft and easy to drink with a classic Franconian dry fruitiness. The finish was very long, dry and bitter. It was our favorite at the Sandkerwa and I’ll not soon forget the name Adler-Bräu. I believe a trip to Stettfeld is in our future.
