Schlenkerla Hansla

Served: from a bottle bought at the brewery

Impression: I’d liked both Heinzlein beers so figured I’d go for the trifecta with the first of the Schlenkerla very low alcohol beers. This one is an actual Rauchbier unlike the previous two which just get some residual smoke from the tanks. It’s another amazing looking beer with a gorgeous rocky head and smoked ham in the nose. It’s much fuller bodied than you’d imagine with super head retention. It’s not quite as hoppy as the other two but there’s a nice smoky element. Finish is lingering, semi-dry and semi-bitter. This isn’t as good as the real thing but a valid option for those who don’t drink and want to taste Rauchbier or designated drivers. I’d take it over a Radler any day. Schlenkerla pulls off another difficult feat but after having this, I’d like to see them brew something in the 3-3.5% range.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
