Altenberger Brauhaus Märzen
Brewery: Altenberger Brauhaus
Town: Altenberg-Oberasbach
Style: Märzen 5.7%
Color: unfiltered light amber
Head: off-white, creamy
Nose: richly malty
Body: medium to full
Palate: balanced, malty, light spice, underlying hops, hint of integrated butter
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: Served in a logo .3l glass, they took their time for a well-presented pour sans over carbonation. Light amber with a lasting creamy head and spicy nose, the balanced palate is quite dry right from the start. It’s not quite as dry as the Hell but is quite so for a Märzen. It’s not quite rich enough for an all out Märzen and there’s the ever so slight hint of butter but it’s not distracting and the overall richness and finish preservers.
