Altenberger Brauhaus Maibock
Brewery: Altenberger Brauhaus
Town: Altenberg-Oberasbach
Style: Bock
Color: deep amber to chestnut
Head: off-white, creamy
Nose: richly malty, dried fruit
Body: full
Palate: balanced, richly malty, dried fruit, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: Served in a logo .3l glass, they took their time for a well-presented pour sans over carbonation. This Bock had a hard act to follow after the gorgeous Schwarzbier but it held its own despite being way out of season in July. It’s rich and fruity, and both balanced and dry for the style. The lingering finish is just dry enough to make it dangerous.
