Schlenkerla Heinzlein Dunkles Bier

dark beer with massive head in logo glass with bottle
Schlenkerla Heinlein Dunkles Bier

Brewery: Heller (Schlenkerla)
Town: Bamberg
Style: low alcohol dark beer
Color: chestnut
Head: off-white, rocky, massive, great retention
Nose: cereal, slight smoke

Body: medium
Palate: hoppy, cereal, light smoke
Finish: lingering, bitter

Served: from a bottle bought at the brewery

Impression: This is an amazing looking looking beer with a gorgeous rocky head. Lots of cereal in the nose and surprisingly light on the smoke. Fuller bodied than you’d imagine and super head retention. Quite hoppy but fair balance and just a hint of smoke. Finish is lingering and bitter. This is my first truly low alcohol beer and must say it’s better than I’d imagined. Schlenkerla pulls off another difficult feat but after having this, I’d like to see them brew something in the 3-3.5% range, which as a non-driver in Germany I’d find more useful.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
