Impression: Oddly, I’d shied away from Helles at Griesbräu. I guess I’d tended to be at the brewery in winter and when eating dark sauce laden meals in cold weather, Dunkles is my go-to beer. This was a hot day and I’d done two hikes so a Helles seemed in order. I was quite surprised at how hoppy it was and it certainly looked a beauty on coming out. I find Helles can be an overly malty beer and if it lacks the semi-dry finish of the best, I am not always satisfied. If anything, this Helles could use a tad more malt but it was nonetheless refreshing and I’m sure I’ll be ordering it again. It’s a great way to end your Murnau hike.
