Impression: This was one of the first must have Franconian beers for me. I’d read a lot about it and it was one of the few four-star beers in my first guide to Bavarian beer. I must say I was a bit disappointed the first time around but the expectations were incredibly high and to be fair, I had a bad head cold, rendering my sense of smell useless. On return visits, my impressions were more favorable and on my most recent trip, it certainly hit the spot. It’s no longer on gravity dispense so it depends a bit on who is pouring the beer. I had a very gassy one from a waitress but every time I was there when the barman was working, the beer was perfect. It’s a dark beauty with a rich malty palate that dries out well before the bitter finish.
Next beer or back to the beer list.
