Ambräusianum Bockbier
Brewery: Ambräusianum
Town: Bamberg
Style: Bock
Color: lightly filtered dark amber
Head: rocky, tan
Nose: malty
Body: medium-bodied
Palate: rich malt, dried fruit
Finish: some bitterness
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: I was never hard-pressed to try Ambräusianum but I figured they were no longer the newest brewpub in town and I’d been to the newer Kronprinz so why not? With its great location and nice interior, you can see why it’s quite busy and the service was quick and attentive. It had a bustling feel and I was open-minded when the beer came out. The Bock looked promising enough and had some malt in the nose. It had a fairly rich malty palate with a hint of dried fruit before a slightly bitter finish. It was certainly a decent Bock but in a town like Bamberg, that’s a notch below the competition.
