Brewery: Barnikel no longer brews, contracted by Rothenbach
Head: off white, dense
Palate: malty with some chocolate notes
Finish: bittersweet, semi-dry
Served: from a bottle at the brewpub after brewing ceased
Impression: Timeless old place that seems to have run out of time, or manpower to run both a brewery and a pub. I didn’t realize it at the time and they aren’t exactly forthcoming about not being a brewery. That said, I enjoyed the place and the server was very nice. I also liked both the simple food and both of the beers I had. The Dunkles was better than others on the same beer hiking trail despite being brewed elsewhere. I’d still rather have that than bringing in another brewery’s beer or having the pub close and brewing beer to have elsewhere, generally in bottled form. I’ll surely go back again when in the area.
Next beer or back to the beer list.
