Altenberger Brauhaus Hell
Brewery: Altenberger Brauhaus
Town: Altenberg-Oberasbach
Style: Vollbier Helles 4.7%
Color: unfiltered golden
Head: white, creamy, rocky
Nose: light grain, underlying hops
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, malty, light grain, dry, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: Served in a logo .3l glass, they took their time for a well-presented pour sans over carbonation. Deep golden with a rocky head and grainy nose, the balanced palate is quite dry right from the start. It’s more a Pils than many so named in Franconia but still has some malt backbone and isn’t particularly bitter. Not really a session beer but I appreciate its dry cleanness after the mostly sticky Zirndorfer beers I had at lunch time. I think I’d rather drink the Zirndorfer Kellerbier all night but I still have three beers to try here and if this one is any indication, I imagine one will take the crown.
