Bambergator
Brewery: Fäßla
Town: Bamberg
Style: Dopplebock
Color: lightly filtered amber
Head: white, creamy
Nose: malty but a hint of hops
Body: full-bodied, low carbonation
Palate: a big rich malty flavor, fruity
Finish: dry and bittersweet
Served: from a bottle at the brewery
Impression: I’ve never seen this on tap, even at the brewery but imagine it is available around the time of its first tapping in November. It’s still a bock to seek out and quite different from all the others in Bamberg. It’s darker and much stronger but not sweet in the least. In fact, it’s probably the most bitter of the traditional Bamberg Bocks. I recently did find it on gravity dispense at the brewery.
