Krug-Bräu Bock
Brewery: Krug-Bräu
Town: Breitenlesau
Style: Heller Bock
Color: deep golden
Head: white, dense
Nose: malty, a hint of hops
Body: full-bodied, low carbonation
Palate: a big malty flavor, quite dry for strength
Finish: long dry and bittersweet
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: I had this the first time at a Maibaum Fest in Schnabelwaid just on the edge of the Bierquellenweg hike. These are events where they raise a May pole in celebration of the first day of May. It was in a krug so I had no visuals but since I knew Krug’s main beer is a dark one, I just assumed it was dark. At the brewery, it was in glass and I was surprised to find it a deep golden. I’m partial to dark bitter bocks so it threw me a bit. It was nonetheless, a very balanced bock with lots of hoppy bitterness in the long dry finish.
