Hönig Lagerbier
Brewery: Hönig
Town: Tiefenellern
Style: Kellerbier
Color: in krug so no visuals
Head: thinning
Nose: malty, slight hop
Body: medium-bodied, low carbonation
Palate: dry and fruity, nicely balanced
Finish: long dry and slightly bitter finish
Served: on gravity dispense in the Biergarten behind the brewery
Impression: I’d been to the brewery a few times and on my long walk last year, finally did sit out back but the Biergarten wasn’t fully in swing. This time it was and the old brewer was out back with two barrels (one Pils, one Lagerbier). It was a joy and so was the Lagerbier in such a setting. This is one beer you could quite easily (and happily) drink all night.
Next beer or back to the beer list.

I'm an American living in Munich and Bamberg. Why? Well, I came for the beer but stayed for the girl. I'm very happily married to a German woman. Of course, the bonus of great beer certainly doesn't hurt. An avid love of hiking and finding new beers has led me to found Beerwanderers, an information resource on beer hiking trails in Franconia with an emphasis on Franconian food specialties and the endless variety of amazing beer the region is renowned for. I also published my first book Beer Hiking Bavaria which features 50 beer hikes in Bavaria and lead beer hiking experiences for those who love beer & nature. View all posts by beerwanderers
