Founded in 1492, the royally owned brewery was destroyed in 1634 during the 30 Years War. Rebuilt soon after, it was nationalized after secularization in 1803 and later bought up by the Gutmann family who also acquired what is now the Weizen producing brewery in nearby Titting. It is noted for buying up regional breweries and often discontinuing their brands such as the Stadtbrauerei Roth, though they now brew their Kellerbier at their facility. On the plus side, it’s one of the first solar-powered breweries. They produce a full range of beers which fit more neatly into Bavarian styles than Franconian ones.

some of the bottles I brought home
Their beers are everywhere, on tap and in shops. I picked up nearly the full range at a local Edeka supermarket and must say, they were better than the versions on tap.
Beers: Hell, Dunkel, Kellergold, Märzen, Privat Pils, Hefeweizen, Hefeweizen Leicht, Hefeweizen Dunkel plus alcohol free versions of their Weizen and Hell. Their branded version of the former Rother Kellerbier.
Non-Hofmühl beers: Stigwarts Hell, Stigwarts Kirchweihbier
