Orca Bräu R(i)otbier
Brewery: Orca Bräu
Town: Nürnberg-Schmalau
Style: Rotbier 5.6%
Color: unfiltered red
Head: off-white, creamy
Nose: malty, spicy
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, malty, fruity, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap orca.bar in Nürnberg.
Impression: Orca Bräu Rotbier is an unfiltered amber rustic example of the style. The balanced palate is malty with light grain notes. The lingering finish is semi-dry and semi-bitter. It’s quite soft due to the low carbonation. An easy drinker for sure. I’d say it’s better than most of the Rotbiers in Nürnberg but when I did the round-up, the orca.bar wasn’t yet open.

Orca Bräu is a new one for me and I would not have known it if was not for you. I found the Rotbier to be be very quaffable; it goes down smooth. I think Schanzenbräu still hold the crown for the style, but this is certainly a close second.
I should update my Rotbier Roundup. Indeed, Orca brews a better one than all but Schanzenbräu. It was fun checking out with you guys.
