Impression: Schlossbrauerei Stelzer Kupfer is a deep copper example of a Spezial but heading towards a Märzen. Its nose is largely malty. The balanced richly malty palate features burnt caramel notes. The lingering finish is semi-dry and bittersweet. The Spezial style is particular to Franconia, especially in Middle Franconia. It’s quite like a Märzen but tends to have a bit less alcohol. I’d had a bottle of this in 2020 but their pub was closed at the time. So, I never got there and had kind of forgotten about it. It was nice to see this on tap. On investigation, it appears their pub is once again one. Needless to say, another place to hopefully visit soon. These notes are sparse due to the number of beers sampled in a short time at the Bavarian Czechia Beer Tasting event held in Rehau.
