Hönig Bockbier
Brewery: Hönig
Town: Tiefenellern
Style: Heller Bock
Color: deep golden
Head: ample, rocky
Nose: rich malt
Body: medium-bodied, low carbonation
Palate: quite malty, hops come in the end
Finish: clean, bitter
Served: bottle bought in the area
Impression: I quite like this brewery and really like their tasty Pils, nothing like your run of the mill Pils. I had planned on doing the 7-Brewery Trail in late October in hopes of trying all the Bocks en route but the weather was awful so I bailed last minute. So, I was happy to find this at a local beer store when in the area a few weeks later. It looked great on pouring and had a nice malty nose but I was surprised at how much the malt dominated the palate, at least initially. The hops came through in the end and the finish was quite bitter but the transition between the two flavors was anything but smooth. I think this is one of those brews you just have to get on tap at the brewery and hopefully next season, I’ll rectify that.
