Urban Brewing Dungeons Stout
Brewery: Urban Brewing Co.
Town: Hout Bay
Style: Stout
Color: unfiltered, black
Head: tan, dense
Nose: slight hop
Body: full, medium carbonation
Palate: rich, sourish
Finish: long, bittersweet
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: Funky little brewery in Hout Bay, well worth making the effort to go to. I had the Kölsch (Blond Ale) and Pils (Monkey’s Paw) prior to this one so wasn’t sure what to expect. It was 7% so imagined it to be a fairly heavy rich affair and wasn’t disappointed, coming out with dense tan head and totally opaque black. The taste was up to the visuals with a nice kind of sourishness that offset the otherwise rich malty palate. There was ample hopping as evidences by the long bittersweet finish. I bought some bottles for the road and have to say, they were even better than the tap version, with a more pronounced bitterness.
How about another South African craft beer?
