Tambosi has been a fixture on the Promenade since 1906 when its then Art Nouveau facade was a sight to behold by the town’s wealthy who had enjoyed strolling the shady oasis for over a hundred years. A garden court was later added and the current name was then taken from the Munich stalwart. In 1934, it was purchased by the Hübner family and has been run as a traditional restaurant since 1973. Just when it looked like its long history would come to an end, the courtyard Biergarten was refurbished and reopened in 2007.

a nice spot to wait for your bus over a beer

With its location right on the bus terminal, I’d walked by this place hundreds of times but had never stopped in. I wanted to try the Schmitt-Bräu Helles and hadn’t been able to make it out to the brewery. Intrigued by the sign for a Biergarten, I finally took the plunge and it was a very nice little shady treed oasis. It turns out that they serve the Schmitt-Bräu Helles that is still contract brewed at Günther-Bräu rather than the newer one that has recently been brewed again in Scheßlitz. I wasn’t sure about this but it was filtered and a week later I finally got to the brewery, where it was unfiltered. That said, it was very similar and this is certainly more convenient.  If you find yoursel waiting for a bus, it’s definitely a nicer spot to wait for it than on a bench. They have a full menu and seem to do a fair trade in food. It’s sure been around for a long time so it must be decent.

Beers: Schmitt-Bräu Helles, Fäßla Gold Pils on tap. Bottled Schmitt-Bräu Urstoff, Fäßla Zwergla, Kundmüller Kellerbier & Bock, Schlenkerla Märzen, Spezial Lager, Keesmann Herren Pils & Hefeweizen.
