Fässla Zwergla
Brewery: Fäßla
Town: Bamberg
Style: Vollbier
Color: chestnut
Head: off-white, creamy, thinning
Nose: malty, slightly grainy
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, malt forward, grainy, underlying hops
Finish: clean, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery’s Fässla Keller
Impression: I’ve always enjoyed Zwergla from a bottle and have been equally at a loss for why it’s not on tap at the brewery tap. I’d read it was on tap at their Keller but it took me quite some time to get out there. I’m glad I finally made the effort as it is a richly malty beauty of a beer. It was nicely poured with a robust creamy head and deep chestnut hue. It had a malty nose with a touch of grain which much belied the palate. Though malty, it is certainly dry enough and the finish is moreish making it a dangerous 6% to drink at a Keller.
