HENRII inception & atmosphere
HENRII is the stylish brainchild of entrepreneurs Maximilian Beughold and Raffaele Colonna, who transformed the former eyesore ruin in the historic Mühlenviertel into a great open space, utilizing a previously wasted view of the Rathaus. Named after emperor Henry II, the eclectic dining spot became an instant hit with locals and visitors alike craving something besides traditional Franconian fare.

a stunning view & some fine brews
The food & drinks
HENRII offers an array of dishes from fresh hand-made pasta to charcoal-grilled high quality meats. Though prices can be high, they offer plenty of more economical options, including sharing plates and weekday lunch specials, aimed at area workers. We opted for one of the former with chicken, steak and salmon, which came with quite a few sides. It was ample for two people and certainly fairly priced. As you might expect, there is an extensive wine menu as well as trendy cocktails, including quite a few alcohol free options. Beer drinkers are well-catered to with the relatively rare Schlenkela Lager on tap, along with three from Mahrs: “U,” Pils and Helles.

inside & out: a stylish venue
My wife raved after her visit to HENRII with a friend, prompting a return together. It was an excellent first visit for me, and I’d happily return, especially for a special occasion. The view is fantastic and our food was excellent. The plus of decent beer on tap won’t hurt either.
Beers: Schlenkerla Lager, Mahrs U, Mahrs Pils & Mahrs Helles on tap. Bottled: Schlenkerla Rauchbier, Gutmann Weizen. Alcohol free: Gutman Weizen.
