The Krautheimer Biergarten is doing double duty since their Brauauschank closed down during COVID. The busy shady oasis is lush and welcoming with five beers on tap and a simple but tasty Brotzeit menu. I was surprised by just how nice it was along with how busy. I’d been trying to get there for about five years when I finally went up and ordered my first beer, a Weißbier but I was so excited I’d forgotten they had Weißwurst.

Though I’d been intrigued with getting Weißwurst, the Weißbier wasn’t all that amazing so I moved onto their Helles Lagerbier, Kellerbier and a pair of Bierknacker with a very good pretzel.

It was getting very busy and waiting in line had become a factor so I got another snack, this time Gerufpter with another pretzel. I ordered a Pils in a glass rather than a Krug just to get a visual on a beer I’d not had.

I finished up with their Dunkel but wound up getting a last Kellerbier since my driver decided to have another too. Think it was our favorite. I picked up a bottle of the Weißbier dunkel to go too. Just for good measure, I had it with Weisswurst when I got home.

As I’ve already said, as much as I wanted to get to Krautheim, I wasn’t expecting all that much from the Biergarten. I knew the Brauauschank was adjacent and was kind of expecting a fairly treeless venue. Photos online didn’t look promising but I was happy to find a very leafy Biergarten that I would gladly return to. I just wish it weren’t so hard to get to!
Beers: Krautheimer Pilsner, Krautheimer Helles, Krautheimer Weißbier, Krautheimer Urtyp Dunkel and Krautheimer Kellerbier on tap. Bottled: Krautheimer Dunkles Hefe-Weißbier, Krautheimer Landmärzen, and alcohol free Weißbier and Bier. Specialty beers: Main Lager (cold hopped) and Brew Dudes Pale Ale.
