Impression: Funky little brewery in Hout Bay, well worth making the effort to go to. I didn’t have many expectations but the timing was right and there we were at lunch time, albeit en route to another location for the night. Thankfully, my wife was willing to take over the driving duties once we got there. So, I got to try beers I’d routinely skip like this “Blonde Ale.” I always feel breweries should shy away from this name. It was a typical name when brewpubs caught in fire in the US in the early 90s but it always connotes a “girly beer” to me. It might have something to do with the cartoonish pictures of blondes on the labels or fonts back in the heyday. Anyway, these guys had the sense to put Kölsch under the name and that piqued my interest much more. It was a warm sunny day and this light beer was a perfect choice for it and at 4.5% not too strong. It looked lovely in the shinning sun and its balanced fruity palate went down well, especially with the Fish & Chips we had for lunch.
How about another South African craft beer?
