Impression: The first time I had this beer, it was in the brewpub with my then new girlfriend (now wife). To say she was being kind to bring me to this small village is an understatement. It was a dark cold winter night. It was a dark cold Franconian village. We had no map, it was before we had a GPS and smartphones were a thing of the future. My memory of it is clouded by all these factors but I remember enjoying the excitement of something so new. I returned a few years ago with my wife and it was a sunny afternoon and we sat outside. It was entirely different and the beer looked amazing when it was brought out. It was such a full bodied brew and perfect in this village setting. When most people imagine a beer, this is probably what comes to mind. Of course, once they took a sip, they’d likely be pleasantly surprised at it being better than than they had imagined.
Next beer or back to the beer list.
Hello, is this beer available anywhere in Munich? Or,what are the best pubs to visit there to get the best beers from small breweries from Bavaria?
Unfortunately not. Pubs with multiple beers on tap are not so common in Germany. Much has one but they special in craft beer. It’s called me the Tap House. There are some good small breweries near Munich: Forschungsbrauerei in Perlach, Ayinger in Aying and Maisach. Nürnberg has a great restaurant with four excellent regional Franconian beers on tap. It’s called the Krackower Turm. No Witzgal but comparable beer like Penning from Hetzelsdorf. Hope that helps but most small breweries in Franconia are so small, their beer is available only at them.
