Kraus Hirschentrunk
Brewery: Kraus
Town: Hirschaid
Style: Rauchbier
Color: amber
Head: off white, dense
Nose: faint smoke
Body: full-bodied, low carbonation
Palate: malty with fair smoke and a hint of roast, quite dry
Finish: very clean, dry and bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: This is a very bustling place, the small Biergarten was packed the mid-day visit I paid it and recently I found the restaurant packed on a Monday night in winter. Their much heralded Hirschenbrunk is a very clean quaffer with just enough smokiness to offset the primarily malty but dry profile. The finish is very clean and moreish with just the right touch of bitterness.
