Mahrs Bock
Brewery: Mahrs Bräu
Town: Bamberg
Style: Heller Bock
Color: deep golden
Head: white, dense
Nose: malty but a hint of hops
Body: full-bodied, low carbonation
Palate: a big malty flavor, quite dry for strength
Finish: long dry and bittersweet
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: One of the greatest brewpubs you’re likely to have the pleasure of enjoying a beer and meal in. It oozes the old world and there’s generally a couple beers from big wooden barrels to add to the atmosphere. Unfortunately, these are no longer authentic and are regular taps funneled through very nice looking wooden barrels. That said, the beers are not gassy. It had an incredibly soft palate and the malty elements mingled perfectly with ample hopping. The long finish lingered in your mouth right up to the somewhat bitter but altogether pleasant finish. It’s a dangerously drinkable bock!
Next beer or back to the beer list.
“One of the greatest brewpubs you’re likely to have the pleasure of enjoying a beer and meal in.” Yep, Mahrs is really good, one of my favourite spots in Bamberg with some fantastic beers and food at a really good price. Recommended
We’ll have to get a crew back up there and get to Mahrs earlier.
