Founded in 1587, this small village brewery just outside Bamberg is easy to get to and worth a stop for their great food and serviceable beer. It was renovated in 2005 but retains a traditional atmosphere with some nice new touches.
It was winter and their Bock was on and though not up there with Bamberg’s best, it was a nice easy drinking brew which went well with our two meal choices: pork medallions in a pan with roasted potatoes and pork medallions in a creamy mushroom sauce with Spätzle.
Pork medallions seemed to be the choice
I stopped by all too briefly before starting my hike to Weiher while researching my book Beer Hiking Bavaria. I only had time for a quick beer and chose the Helles since looked to be a hot hike. It was most refreshing and I can’t wait to get back for some of their great food next time.
time for one quick beer before the hike
