Impression: Brauverein Schwabach Goldschlägerburschla is an unfiltered light amber rustic brew. The name comes from the tradesmen who would beat gold into the paper thin foil the city was renowned for. It’s a little fruity and ale-like. The balanced palate is malty with light grain notes. The lingering finish is semi-dry and semi-bitter. It’s quite soft due to the low carbonation, so an easy drinker for sure. I found out later that it was brewed as a Helles, and they weren’t entirely happy with the results. As a Helles, I guess I would too but as a Kellerbier, I liked it.  Between the low carbonation and fruity aspect, I would have guess it was an ale.

  1. I hung around the alstadt there a few times (well, center of town I guess) as my good friend lives in Schwabach. Don’t remember seeing beers from this place. Sounds interesting as I like Kellerbiers.

    1. If you follow the link from the beer review to the brewery, you’ll see it’s a brewing club. They brew for themselves and for events. Some are at the “brewery” but this one was a big town festival that they were part of. So, definitely have to plan to be there when something is one. I live here and this is the first time I’ve managed to try the beers.
