Entla’s Bräu Giesela Festbier
Brewery: Entla’s Keller
Town: Erlangen
Style: Bergkirchweih Festbier
Color: in Krug so no visuals, looks amber
Head: white, creamy, rocky, good lacework
Nose: grainy, spicy hops
Body: full
Palate: balanced, richly malty, spicy hops, light grain
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the Bergkirchweih in Erlangen.
Impression:Entla’s Bräu Giesela Festbier is hoppier than a typical Festbier with ample malt backbone. Spicy hops in the nose foretell a balanced palate that dries out nicely in the lingering semi-dry, semi-bitter finish. Entla’s Bräu Giesela Festbier takes some effort go find. On arriving at the Bergkirchweih, I chose the entrance closest to Entla’s Keller. I ordered a beer but was unsure what it was. When I asked the server, he said it was Kitzmann Biergkirchweihbier. This is now made by Kulmbacher. It was good but I’d heard Entla’s made their own and he said it was available from the next service area. I walked just a bit up into the Fest, and there it was. It was labeled differently, as Bräu Giesela Festbier. It was, indeed, a totally different beer.
