Opening hours:

Thursday to Saturday from 19:00

Rösla is a charming locals pub housed in a gorgeous old half-timbered building on the main square of Burgkundstadt. The interior is atmospherically dark wood and low light. Out front are some tables where you can enjoy both views of the town’s most historical buildings as well as the pub itself. On this summer evening, everyone was certainly doing  just that.

a great stop if in Burgkunstadt

They serve a few simple snacks but the real draw of this small kniepe is its beer selection. In addition to having four beers form local Günther-Bräu on tap, they bring in a changing monthly beer. I was happy to see the summer seasonal beer called Sunna from the smaller brewery in town, Kommunbrauerei 1059.

some lovely beers from local Burgkunstadt breweries

I’d run across this lovely place when exploring the town in 2024 but it was in the afternoon so naturally closed.  The Royal was the only place open and unfortunately only had the Günther-Bräu Pils on tap. I would easily call Rösla the unofficial brewery tap for the town’s largest brewery. If looking to sample their beers on tap, I don’t think you’ll find a better venue. It does appear that the original location of the brewery could reopen and I hope to investigate that soon.

The bartender was very friendly though initially only told me about the lighter colored beers. I’m glad I specifically asked for the Schwarzbier. To be fair, I’d missed the tap list on the way in. The place had a nice lively but relaxed vibe. My visit was more rushed than I would have liked but hope to return to sample the Günther-Bräu Lager on tap.

Beers on tap:

Günther-Bräu Pilsner, Günther-Bräu Helles, Günther-Bräu Bernstein Lager & Günther-Bräu Schwarzbier plus one monthly changing beer such as Kommunbrauerei 1059 Sunna from the local communal brewery.
