Town: Watzdorf in Thuringia
Head: tan, rocky
Nose: roasty, espresso
Palate: balanced, roasty, hint of espresso, dry
Finish: clean, dry, slightly bitter
Served: on tap at Burgschänke in Burg Greifenstein
Impression: I had enjoyed their Pils but Thuringia is know for Schwarzbier so I was looking forward to this Schwarzbier. It was coal black with a tan head. The nose had a befitting touch of espresso for good measure. It was roasty with this coffee aspect in the background and the finish was clean, dry and slightly bitter. I’m not always a huge fan of the style but when they are dry like this one, they can be quite good and a style you can really session on.
