Brewery: Hösl
Town: Mitterteich
Style: Dunkles
Color: dark brown
Head: tan, dense, rocky
Nose: malty
Body: full-bodied, low carbonation
Palate: quite fruity and dry, some chocolate notes
Finish: dry and clean
Served: from a bottle at the brewery
Impression: I’d had this in a bottle previously and one of the reasons to go to the brewery was to have it on tap. I was disappointed to find out it isn’t available on tap, not even there. That said, it was served well with a large rocky head in a mug with the brewery logo. It was as good as I remembered, quite dry with some fruitiness and chocolate notes. It’s sad when a brewery can’t serve its own great beer on tap due, I would imagine, to a lack of locals drinking it despite its high quality.
