It’s easy to see why the Waldnaaptal Blockhütte is so beloved by locals who claim it as the prettiest Biergarten in the county. Set in a lush forest in the center of the Waldnaabtal Nature Reserve, one gets a true feeling of being in nature. There’s an old water wheel down by the river that keeps the kids busy and lots of shady spots on a hot day. In colder months, there is a big wooden structure that looks a bit like a hut but if you look a little, there is the original Blockhütte preserved as a reminder of more rustic times. My guess is if you arrived on a cold wet day, you’d be glad the new version was in place. At any rate, the time to go is summer when you can enjoy the idyllic Biergarten.

It’s a full service restaurant with a friendly wait staff and beers from the Friedenfelser Brewery in nearby Friedenfel. Most people were drinking their Helles or Weißbier, which were on tap, but we were happy to find a Zoigl on offer even if from a bottle. We were equally happy to see Roulade on the menu and both opted for this tasty rolled beef dish served with massive potato dumplings and a side salad.

Best reached on foot as it is located on perhaps the most scenic section of the famed Goldsteig, Germany’s longest hiking route. It’s about 90 minutes from Falkenberg and 2 hours from Neuhaus.
