Pizzini atmosphere
Pizzini’s full name has Weinstube as a prefix but it’s a dark atmospheric place for a drink of any kind, including beer. The classic brown cafe decor still shows the signs of years of cigarette smoke but that’s luckily just a remnant rather than current situation. Dark wood abounds but the star is the large old green tile oven which is the room’s centerpiece. It caters to a diverse clientele but with its late opening hours, they are on the younger side than most of the Bamberg breweries. It gets quite busy so finding a spot can be difficult but it’s worth the effort.

The beer
I’d been to Pizzini a few times but always late night so not exactly in review mode. If vibes mean anything, this one has tons of it. So, the fact that they have a fair group of beers on tap is a bonus. Along with the standard Keesmann Pils which every bar in town seems to serve, they have their Hell (everyone else has Sonne), Spezial Lager as their Rauchbier and perhaps most interesting, Hönig Zwickel. I was walking by on a dismal Thursday night and noticed it was nearly empty so stopping in seemed perfunctory. Pictures were my focus but I decided to have the Zwickel as I’d only had it once on tap at the now defunct Hop Dog in Munich.

Hönig Zwickel at Pizzini
Pizzini is certainly one of the top late night haunts on Sandstrasse in Bamberg, so if you’re a night owl, don’t just walk on by. Stop in for a Zwickel and soak up the dark wood atmosphere.
Beers on tap: Keesmann Pils, Keesmann Hell, Spezial Lager, Hönig Zwickel.
