Founded in 1755, though the land on which Landwehr-Bräu sits has a longer and interesting history. In 1050, a customs station was built along with an Inn and smithy to handle the flow of travelers and merchants on their way to their now famous neighbor 8 km away. The free standing brewery was added quite a few years later and the original Inn was actually a noted house of wine prior. This founding by Michael Gundel coincided with the granting of brewing rights to areas surrounding Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It was bought by the Alt-Wörner family in 1913 and became the Alt Brauerei. It continued to expand and publicly became Landwehr-Bräu in the 1930s. The last of the family line died in 2012 with no heirs and it was left to the longtime managing director. I guess hard work does sometimes pay off.

What appears to be a village Inn with small brewery attached has fair reach in their area and a robust for its size production of 25000 HL per year. Their range is traditional but covers the full spectrum with a few seasonal beers thrown in for good measure.

Beers: Landwehr-Bräu Hell, Landwehr-Bräu Edel, Landwehr-Bräu Toppler Pils, Landwehr-Bräu Pilsner, Landwehr-Bräu Altfränkisch Dunkel, Landwehr-Bräu Kellerbier, Landwehr-Bräu Rotfränkisch, Landwehr-Bräu Radler, Landwehr-Bräu Alcohol free.
