Reopening & atmosphere

Brauhaus Hersbruck is back in business after laying dormant for many years. Since February 2022, a husband and wife team have brought the old brewery inn back to life. The interior has been tastefully updated in a traditional vein with modern touches. They welcome events and have enough space for a fair size group. The menu is Franconian but again with some upmarket flourishes. They do full roasts on Saturday and Sunday as well. Of course, being the brewery’s flagship pub, they offer five beers on tap from the Bürgerbräu Hersbruck just up the street.

a nicely done renovation

The food

It was a gorgeous day so I sat out front. I started with their Hersbrucker Lagerbier and was happy to see they had a Spargelkarte. So, I ordered a “small” Schnitzel with an ample portion of white asparagus and roasted potatoes. I thought the prices were a little high for small town Franconia but the portion size and quality more than justified it.

Herbrucker Lager & a lovely meal

The beer

The outside seating of Brauhaus Hersbruck is nice and on the market square but could be warm on a hot summer day due to an understandable lack of trees. Umbrellas offer cover but not true shade. Thankfully, it was spring and sitting in the sun was conducive to drinking my way through most of their line-up on tap. I enjoyed their Kellerbier, followed by their Dampfsud (sole dark beer) and finished with their Edel-Pils. There just wasn’t any room for the Albweizen so I’ll start with it next time there.

A trio of Hersbrucker beers to finish off

Friends had visited a small Biergarten just up the square in the summer of 2023 but I found it dormant and according the Google Maps, it is permanently closed. They chose it over the Brauhaus as it looked too upmarket but I’m glad I had a meal here. It was actually fairly priced with all things considered and certainly has the best range of the brewery’s beers on tap. I’ll be happy to return. I still need to try the Albweizen and pick up the rest of their line-up in bottles.

Please note the Brauhaus  Hersbruck website is the rare useful one with opening hours, a full menu with beer/food prices and most importantly closure dates. It’s always best to call ahead but they do answer messages and you can see updated vacation dates there.
