Anno Domini history & atmosphere
Anno Domini has been a Sandauer staple since 1971 for good reason. The rustic pub has a cozy ambience that beckons lingering. A variety of drinks at reasonable prices is what brings in the locals. Run as a cooperative by a group of friends, the place has a homey feel, even for a first time visitor like myself. It was a nice evening so everyone was sitting outside but I’m sure it gets busy inside later in the evening. It’s open quite late, especially on weekends.

The beer
Anno Domini is noted for not having the typical beers on tap you find in Würzburg. The staple beers on tap all come from Rother-Bräu in Hausen, a brewery which specializes in organic beers. I’d had many of them before and only had time for one beer. So, I opted for the guest beer, the Kellerbier from Roppelt in Stiebarlimbach. It was in great shape and very carefully poured by the patient barman.
Tasty beer with a fine view
Anno Domini doesn’t offer any appreciable food but you are allowed to bring your own and they sometimes offer small snacks.
Anno Dominil is definitely a find in Würzburg for those seeking out non-Kulmbacher or Distelhäuser beers. With the addition of interesting guest beers, it’s one you can pop into for a surprise. It’s also a quirky little place worth supporting.
Anno Domini staple beers on tap: Rother-Bräu Öko Pils, Rother-Bräu Öko Ur-Trunk. Bottled Rother-Bräu Öko Ur-Weizen. Rotating guest beers from smaller regional breweries like Roppelt Kellerbier from Stiebarlimbach.
