Impression: Wachtelbräu Hell is a bright golden unfiltered example of the style. The creamy head and grainy/floral hoppy nose are enticing. The balanced palate has a perfect balance of the those same elements. The lingering finish is semi-dry and semi-bitter. Wachtelbräu Hell has a bit of a Craft Beer flair but still very much Franconian despite mimicking a traditional Munich style. The beers from this small brewery are tough to come by due to very limited production. It was quite a surprise to find one available at this festival. Sometimes you just get lucky. When they ran out of kegs, they tapped a small barrel gravity dispense. I’m glad I’d hung around longer than planned. It was even smoother with the grainy element more blended in.
