Schmölzer Braugarten

Schmölzer Braugarten is not only the sole outlet for its namesake brewery’s beers on tap but also truly the best reason to make your way to Schmölz. The locals sure seem to love it.

Schmölzer Braugarten opened in 2018, a mere year after the foundation of its namesake brewery. It is not only the only outlet for their beers on tap, it truly embodies the concept of bringing the community together. Set on the edge of a meadow, it’s a real rural experience. Though the main part looks like a mere terrace, there is some seating on the grass down below with trees that will one day be big enough to provide ample shade. Thoughtfully, they have some covered seating for inclement weather. This is surely a good thing since there is no pub selling their beer off-season.

beer & food

I arrived around 16:30 and there were already some people filing it. By the official opening time, all the unreserved tables were taken so I was glad I’d come early. I wisely ordered a Hausmacherplatte right off the bat and brought my Kellerseidla back to my table guarded by my backpack. Both were superb.

I moved onto their lighter colored though no less flavorful Gaumenschmeichler. In fact, I couldn’t decide which was my favorite so I got one more of each before I decided I’d better get back to the station. The place was really buzzing and it seems to be doing very well. The prices are good and quality of the food excellent. So, I imagine it will be pulling the community together for some time. I hope to join in their celebration again soon too.
