Oberelsbach

Oberelsbach is a small market town in the Rhön-Grabfeld county of Lower Franconia, most easily accessed by car if driving to other breweries in the area. It’s unlikely you’d find yourself here unless looking for the relatively new Pax-Bräu. It’s a small brewery with only bottle sales and occasional events where you would find their beer on tap. The nearest train station is Bad Neustadt (Saale) from which buses run weekdays and Saturdays, though getting back on Saturday would probably be problematic.

Bad Neustadt (Saale) station 20 km/limited bus service

Founded in 2007 by master brewery/beer sommelier Andreas Seufert, they specialized in both traditional Franconian styles with a twist as well as more Craft Beer options. Many of the latter do not adhere to the Reinheitsgebot so cannot be sold as beer per se.

the two bottles I picked up

A friend mentioned he liked some of their beers and I noticed on the map it was right on the way from Wittelbacher Turn and Rother-Bräu so had to stop and pick up a few bottles. The older man who greeted us was very friendly and informative on their large variety of beers as well as telling us people love their mustard! I was more interested in their more traditional offerings and I would have likely bought a few more if they’d come in regular .33L bottles. They only have 1L ones so got their Vollbier and their Doppelbock Pacifator since it’s seasonal and I figured I might not see it again. They were both excellent and I really wished I’d picked up the Helles and Hefeweissbier now too.
