I’ve always liked the Lieberth Keller on the Kreuzberg and their tasty Kellerbier but I’d not been able to get to the actual brewpub. It’s got fairly complicated opening hours and isn’t open at all in the warmer months due to it being Bierkeller season. I made a special point to visit on a Friday prior to Good Friday and was glad I did. The interior was cozy and service was friendly.

I got there on an early bus as I figured it would be busy. It was fairly empty when I got there but it was soon packed. Their special that day was carp and everyone was eating it so I joined right in. It was quite good and their Kellerbier was excellent, as usual. It was nice to have it in a glass so I could see its color. At the Keller, it’s always in a ceramic mug.
carp is a specialty in this region and so is Kellerbier
They also had a Lagerbier in bottle and though the server told me hardly anyone ever ordered it and was surprised to have me do it anyway, I liked it too. It is surely a filtered version of the Kellerbier but still had a slightly different taste.
It’s fairly easy to get to Hallerndorf by bus from Forchheim and think I’ll be back at this great little brewpub for carp again. Next time, I’ll just drink the Kellerbier like everyone else.
