Set right in the heart of the Handwerkerhof and reportedly serving food since 1313, this all-too-touristy half-timbered restaurant would generally have me running for the hills but I once grabbed a quick Bratwurst sandwich to go when little else was open. It was good and not as over-priced as I’d imagined. I later found out they had Dorn-Bräu Hell on tap and I stopped in to have one only to find they were out that day. The server was surprised when I just got up and left, saying that was what I’d come for. I returned a few weeks later to find it not only flowing but many people drinking it rather than the local Tucher products.

I checked out the interior and actually found a cozy if kitschy place everyone imagines when coming to Germany. It was empty as it was glorious out so I squeezed onto a table out front, enjoying the sun and a lovely beer I’d only had once onsite due to its relative isolation from where I live. I saw a kid eating one of those sandwiches I’d had years ago but don’t think an adult could get it without taking it away!
