Biersalon Coburg decor & atmosphere
Biersalon Coburg is a beer oasis in an otherwise beer desert landscape. The cozy interior is dark wood and vaulted ceilings with atmospheric low lighting. Brewery memorabilia and an assortment of old ceramic mugs round out the picture. Stools at the bar, which were full as the evening progressed, were proof this is a drinking establishment first. Out front were some stand up tables as well as beer garden type benches. Umbrellas were not just ornamental as it gets full sun during it’s afternoon opening time.

The beer
Biersalon Coburg has twelve rotating taps of excellently chosen regional beers. With so many, they can feature a full array of styles. It was nice to see two dark beers in the mix. Though they had a few favorites, I stuck strictly to beers I’d not had prior. First up was Kesselring Landbier Hell, which I drank outside in the sun. Next up, I opted for Reckendorfer Alt Hausbrauerbier, which I’d not even heard of before. As the sun went down, I went inside while I could still get a table. I got Gampertbräu Förster Dunkel and ordered some food. I finished up with a non-Franconian beer. Though I’ve had it before, Winkler Kupfer Spezial isn’t a beer you find all that often.

Food at Biersalon Coburg
Food options at Biersalon Coburg are a bit limited but there are some vegetarian options. Fries seemed to be the most popular item and they came with a huge assortment of toppings. I had my heart set on the Brotzeitplatte, but was sad to see it had become a for-two-person item. I asked if I could get it for one but was told it was no longer an option. I’d had a big lunch but got it anyway. It was good quality and not really all that huge. The bread was unfortunately low grade and stale. I thought for the price, it should have been better.

Food resampling
Biersalon Coburg fared much better on my second visit. With my wife in tow, we shared an order of Tijauna Frittern, which was quite tasty and spicy. She liked the sounds of quite a few of the varieties so sure we’ll be back. I got to try Huppendorfer Urtyp Hell on tap, as well as Reckendorfer Gambrinus Bock. I always find something on tap I haven’t had, no small feat.

some new beers & great fries
Service was friendly and efficient. It was quite busy and it was a bustling crowd. I was much happier with the food the second time around, too. One thing is for sure, if I’m in Coburg and looking for a beer, I’d head to Biersalon Coburg, and you should too.
